Shana Merrick, Board Member

Shana Merrick born on the reservation in Macy, Nebraska and an enrolled member of the Omaha Nation from the Inke’cabe Clan (Buffalo Clan). Raised in Cincinnati, Ohio while maintaining close family, community and cultural ties to the Omaha people. Obtained a Master’s degree from University of Cincinnati in Social Work. Has 30+ years of experience within social services, behavioral, and physical health organizations predominately working with underserved and marginalized communities. An advocate for health equity and health justice especially within Indigenous communities having served as a Tribal Liaison. Learning that as Indigenous people “we are the medicine”: our voices, our culture, our communities and our history light our way. Proud and grateful to serve on the Board as the Urban Native Collective is helping me to find my Indigenous voice, connecting me with community and providing opportunities for advocacy and learning.
